William Shakespeare’s
Twelfth Night

TYR Shakes second outing took on a favorite of ours: "Twelfth Night". Featuring shipwrecks, mistaken identities, and schemers of all stripes, Twelfth Night was another knock out success for our burgeoning TYR Shakes program, lifted up by students who not only were ready to have fun with the story, but who took such a serious and personal interest in the language and subject matter so as to make every class a fascinating exploration of themes. How much of Viola's story is actually about escapism? What does the show have to say about gender identity? Hearing these concepts debated and explored by our performers was everything I could ever hope to see in the coming generation. And the end product was a show as thoughtful as it was entertaining.
